Learn How To Make Trips To The Dentist With A Large Family Easier

Posted on

When you have a large family, getting everyone to the dentist can sometimes be a hassle because of the numerous appointments that have to be made. Fortunately, with proper planning, you can get everyone's teeth taken care of quickly and easily. The following guide walks you through a few tips to use to make going to the dentist easier for your family.

Visit a Family Dentistry Office

Rather than taking your children to a pediatric dentist and you going to a dentist only for adults, visit a dentist who specializes in family dentistry. The dentist will be able to care for both baby and adult teeth with ease.

Book Everyone's Appointments for the Same Day

Schedule for everyone to be seen on the same day. This will allow you to avoid having to make multiple trips to the dentist. It is best to book the appointments as soon as you can because it can sometimes be difficult to get multiple appointments on the same day.

Determine the Order Everyone Will Be Seen In

You need to plan for the order that everyone will need to be seen. You need to be sure that older kids can sit with the younger children while you are being seen by the dentist. It would be very difficult for you to get the care you need while trying to wrangle your young children.

Bring Entertainment for Your Younger Children

Not all dental offices have toys or books for children to play with while they are waiting to be seen or to go home. Bring things with you that can keep the kids entertained while they are waiting. You can bring portable DVD players, tablets, or even handheld games for the kids to play with while they wait. Be sure to bring headphones so that the noise does not bother other patients in the lobby.

Be in the Room with Your Younger Children

Young children can often be intimidated by the dentist. Being in the room with them can help them feel more comfortable and at ease with the situation. It also provides you with an opportunity to talk to the dentist about any issues that are discovered.

Before leaving the dental office be sure to make appointments for your next checkup. This will allow you to be sure that you will be able to get everyone in to see the dentist together again in the future. Contact a dentist, like James V Bachman DMD, for more help.
